day 2: kyoto and osaka
met some french guys in a jamacian bar in kyoto japan…what?? I love it here
day 1 in kyoto
I had an amazing day in Kyoto! We visited temples, went shopping, and ate downtown.
A few points, since I’m too tired to write out everything we did.
1. The temple gardens were absolutely beautiful. I seriously would love to live on one of the houses that line the narrow roads up to the mountains.
2. Warm toilet seats are the best :D
3. It is not unusual to see people wearing face masks. I think it is because they are sick and they don’t want to infect others. How courteous! I felt bad coughing because I didn’t have a mask.
4. There is no carding at bars
5. Onegaimas (please) is the most used word, from what I can tell. Everyone is so polite here!
6. It is alright to sacrifice sleep in order to make the most out of your experience.
7. Cartoons are everywhere and everything is cute by nature :)
Tomorrow I’m meeting up with Lillian and maybe going to Osaka!

first night in japan
I finally made it to Japan!
I spent the 2 days in a sleepy haze because apparently my body is unable to fall asleep on airplanes for whatever reason. The plane was pretty nice but I wish I had been able to sleep! We arrived at our hotel at 10 pm last night, and then we had breakfast this morning at 7. We’re going to explore Kyoto in 15 minutes!
I love Japan so far. All of the people I’ve encountered are very friendly and also really fashionable! Everything seems very clean and efficient here, and there are good vibes everywhere. I really enjoyed the relaxing music at the airport and the tea in my room. :)
I’ll have more to write about after today I’m sure!
Sore dewa mata! (see you later)
this is it!!
Welp, I’m leaving to go to the airport in 1 hour! I really still can’t believe that I’m going….I think it’s not going to sink in until I actually land in Japan.
A few emotions are going through my head….I’m nervous, but I’m also excited….I guess a good word to use would be surreal.
Updates to come after I start traveling! :)
I’ve been hit with a horrible cold 4 days before I leave for Japan! Why oh why….I’d better recover in time. Flying is already stressful enough without being sick on top of it. -__-

Couldn’t have asked for a better last night in aa. Ready to go home tomorrow!
Reaching out
I moved out one of my residents today that I never got to know very well. As I was sitting with her in room, we actually talked more than we had the entire year. It made me feel disappointed in myself because I know I could have been a better RA to my girls, regardless of the issues I had with my co.
Next year, I will definitely make more of an effort to reach out and get to know them, not just stay in my comfort zone. ( with staff as well as residents). :)
